PRS Silver Sky Defender: John Mayer, PRS, and Defender bring two icons together

PRS Guitars has teamed up with John Mayer and Defender to introduce a special new collection: the Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition. A collaboration in which the world of high-end guitar making and the iconic Defender come together in a series of eight limited-edition Silver Sky models.
The inspiration for the collection did not come out of thin air. John Mayer has been an enthusiast and collector of Land Rover Defenders for years. His own Arles Blue Defender served as the starting point for this collaboration. Mayer: “As a collector and lover of Defenders, this collaboration is the perfect crossover between two great passions of mine.”
Eight colors, two Silver Sky models
The collection consists of four colors for the American-made PRS Silver Sky and four contemporary Defender colors for the SE Silver Sky.
The American Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition is available in four characteristic Defender heritage colors:
- Arles Blue
- Willow Green
- Portofino Red
- Sandglow Yellow
For the SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition, PRS chose four more modern Defender colors:
- Petra Copper
- Sedona Red
- Carpathian Grey
- Woolstone Green
Each color has its own character and refers to a specific chapter in the history and design philosophy of Defender.
Sandglow Yellow: a Defender color on a Silver Sky
One of the most striking versions is the PRS Silver Sky Defender Sandglow Yellow. The warm, sand-yellow color comes directly from the Defender palette and gives the Silver Sky an appearance that you would not readily associate with a traditional PRS.
The color is also part of a very limited run: only 500 units per color are produced worldwide, accounting for 2,000 guitars in the complete American Silver Sky Defender collection.
The collaboration is also reflected in the details. The guitars feature a color-matched headstock, a unique neck plate with the corresponding color and the serial number “1 of 500”, and they come in an ATA molded case with a custom DEFENDER badge. (This does not apply to the SE models).

Under the special finish, it remains a true Silver Sky. The guitar features three PRS 635JM single-coil pickups, developed in collaboration with John Mayer. The combination delivers the clear, dynamic sound for which the Silver Sky is known, from sparkling cleans to expressive overdrive.
The 25.5-inch scale length, 7.25-inch radius, and the 635 JM-R neck profile ensure the familiar Silver Sky playing feel. The solid alder body is combined with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard with the familiar Small Birds inlays. A PRS steel tremolo, Vintage-Style Locking Tuners, and 22 PRS Medium frets complete the design.
The finishing touch is the Defender look: the heritage colors are combined with white pickguards and control knobs, while the contemporary SE models feature black hardware details.
