The ZEQD-Pre is a fully analog tube preamp that combines the best of both worlds: EarthQuaker Devices' distinctive pedal design and Dr. Z Amplification's renowned tube expertise. This isn't a digital jack-of-all-trades, but a pure, musical tool for guitarists who want true amplifier response on their pedalboard.

Designed to sit at the end of your signal chain, the ZEQD-Pre instantly adds character, dynamics, and depth to your sound. The passive three-band EQ works exactly as you'd expect: musical, predictable, and highly effective. Making subtle adjustments, pushing your preamp a little harder, or bringing a modeling rig to life—it all feels natural and familiar.

No menus, no presets, no IRs, and no updates. Just analog circuitry and an EF86 tube that responds to every nuance of your playing. This pedal does one thing, and it does it exceptionally well: sound like a real tube amp.

The built-in analog cabinet simulation makes the ZEQD-Pre ideal for silent practice sessions or playing directly with headphones, without sacrificing feel. A cab bypass allows you to send a clean signal to an external IR loader, recording interface, or FOH—perfect for studio setups, backline-less gigs, or hybrid setups.

The Boost footswitch completely disables the EQ and provides an open, full-range boost with its own level control. This gives you two distinct sounds at your fingertips: a carefully tuned base and an unfiltered, dynamic boost.

The EF86 pentode—familiar from many Dr. Z amplifiers—guarantees clarity, headroom, and exceptional touch sensitivity. The ZEQD-Pre doesn't feel like a pedal, but rather a real preamp that moves with your playing.

While designed with guitar in mind, this preamp also works surprisingly well with bass, synths, keys, and other sources that benefit from harmonic richness and tube character.
