The four push/pull controls provide access to a wide range of tones. Both Burstbucker 61 pickups can be split to single-coil, and both pickups can be switched to Pure Bypass or Phase. This delivers tones ranging from transparent and single-coil-like to full and humbucker-warm, without needing to switch guitars. The Zebra coil covers are a visual nod to early PAF pickups, giving the Classic extra personality.

The 9-hole weight relief in the mahogany body makes the Classic lighter than a traditional Les Paul, significantly increasing playing comfort during long sessions. The maple top, Slim Taper neck with rosewood fretboard, Acrylic Trapezoid inlays, and 22 frets on a 24.75" scale deliver the characteristic Gibson feel.
