The lightest '57 Goldtop with the heaviest aging: 3.6kg Murphy Lab Heavy Aged
The Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Heavy Aged is special for two reasons. First, its weight: this particular guitar weighs only 3.6 kg, exceptionally light for a Les Paul and a characteristic that directly contributes to its resonance and playing comfort. Second, its aging: the Murphy Lab's Heavy Aged treatment goes beyond subtle checking and lightly aged hardware. This is a guitar that looks like it has been played intensively for decades, with pronounced wear in the nitrocellulose lacquer and heavily aged nickel hardware that beautifully contrasts the Goldtop's gold finish.
Under the hood, it features the same formula that makes the '57 Goldtop legendary: two Custombucker Alnico 3 humbuckers, unpotted and tuned to the PAF specifications of the original year. Warm, open, and dynamic, with a breakup that responds to every nuance of your touch. The mahogany body with a plain maple top and hide glue construction gives the guitar that characteristic resonance of late-fifties Les Pauls. The 50s Rounded Medium C-profile feels familiar in the hand.
All details are historically correct: ABR-1 bridge, Kluson Single Line tuners, authentic 1950s No-Tube truss rod, paper-in-oil capacitors, and CTS 500K potentiometers. Indian Rosewood fretboard with aged cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays, 22 Historic Medium-Jumbo frets. Delivered in a Brown/Pink Lifton Reissue 5-latch case with a Certificate of Authenticity.
3.6 kg, Heavy Aged, Murphy Lab. The lightest '57 Goldtop you'll ever play.
